(NAPSI)-It may come as a surprise to many of today's
dieters, but there is such a thing as "good fat," nutrition
experts say.
According to these dieticians, "good fats", also known
as "essential fatty acids" (EFAs), are as important
to human life and health as are vitamins and minerals.
More than 50 years of medical research has proven without
a doubt that EFAs can influence the human body in a
number of ways, including cardiovascular health, diabetes,
rheumatoid arthritis, skin conditions such as eczema
and psoriasis, brain function, infant development, immune
function and cancer prevention.
Since EFAs are not produced naturally by humans, they
must be obtained through food and nutritional supplements.
The four main EFAs are EPA and DHA found in fish oil;
ALA, found in flax seed oils; and GLA, found in borage
seed oils. Most people do not get enough EFA's in their
diets, so daily supplementation is the only answer.
A "multi-EFA" is as important as a multi-vitamin for
the maintenance of good health. The oils are available
in soft gelatin capsules that are convenient, easy to
swallow and keep the oils fresh.
